What CAN Christians do in these difficult times? #1

Psalm 31:14-17

But I trust in you, O LORD;

I say, “You are my God.”

My times are in your hand;

rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!

Make your face shine on your servant;

save me in your steadfast love!

O LORD, let me not be put to shame,

for I call upon you;

Social unrest, pandemic, political and economic uncertainty, etc... These times are grave! But they are in God's hands, David assures us! We say this, but what does that mean? Does it mean that we should not fear? Yes. Does it mean that He is sovereign and that judgement will be given out for all evildoers? Yes. Does it mean that God has appointed us to live in this time? Yes. Are we also His hands and feet to be His agents for mercy and love? Yes indeed!

But what about being able to do anything specific except pray (which is quite enough to do if we ever took it seriously)?

Well. Only for starters, below you will see pictures from the efforts of Michele Struck to share God's blessings to the area health care workers! Praise God these finally went out this past week! They are being much appreciated! Thank you Michele!

Also Michele will be sending out this next week a Thank You Card and letter to all our government workers who serve the members of Good Shepherd.

This is the text of the letter inside the above card:

Dear __________

The Lord be with you!

We know this is a very stressful time for all our nation, perhaps especially so for our governing officials. We know that most often your incoming mail is filled with letters from concerned citizens who are upset about many things. Of course these are not to be taken lightly and we assume that you are very attentive to them.

But at this moment, we the congregation of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, would like to simply say:

“Thank You!” for all you do.

We would like to let you know that we pray for you continually and ask the Lord to give you wisdom and courage to always do that which is right in the governance of this land.

May the Lord God continually bless you!

Pastor and people of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd

These are two things that our congregation is "doing" together to make a small but we hope not insignificant impact for the good of all. PRAISE THE LORD. But ACTUALLY the most impact we make as Christians is not so much through the congregation, but individually as we live our daily lives in our homes, as we work, and as we play. NEXT week perhaps we can think about these things more deeply. If you have any ideas or thoughts, please feel free to share them below in the comments!
