Blessed Ascension Day + Big News!

The Lord be with you all on this high Feast of the Ascension!

Scripture reading for this day:

Luke 24:44–53 (ESV)

44Then [Jesus] said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things. 49And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

50Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53and were continually in the temple blessing God.

We do pray that the Lord would mark in our hearts the promise that He will not only come to us each by His Holy Spirit, but that He would come quickly in glory to judge the world and save us from our travail. Thanks be to God for His love and salvation!

Besides the no small observance of Christ's ascension, we today are having a parking lot ceremony concluding the 2019-20 academic year for CCA! It has been a crazy but altogether good year for us! Praise God for such a beautiful school, fabulous students and staff! Please join us at 7pm in the church parking lot if you care to, or by livestream here:

Finally, there has been some important developments with implications for our congregation here at Good Shepherd and all our LCMS churches across Minnesota.

Our South Minnesota district president, Rev. Woodford, with the partnership of the Catholic diocese and the Becket Law firm, is bringing a lawsuit against Governor Waltz's orders that still prohibit worship while allowing many other comparable activities to take place. You can read all about it here:

The church council has already agreed to meeting in the parking lot and the back yard for worship. Now we have the option to worship in the sanctuary - with all proper safety precautions instituted. I hope the elders can meet soon to discuss this all, but in the meantime, please join us for worship this coming Sunday in the parking lot - WITH HOLY COMMUNION at our regular 9am worship time! We will be processing into the sanctuary for Holy Communion only (NOTE: Please bring your masks!)
