Yesterday Beth Wilson was blessed to be able to actually SPEAK with Linda Becker over a Facebook connection! She was so happy to report a few bits of her conversation:
"I was able to have a Facebook phone call with Linda. We were able to briefly use our video cams, so got to see her for a few minutes, then switched to only audio due to the internet connection. Pastor and Linda are both well, The camp where they live is in lock-down due to COVID 19 and the camp owners are very conscientious about keeping everyone safe. They have mandated that people with personal vehicles either stay in the camp or if they leave, are not able to come back into camp! Even camp workers have committed to "living" there to avoid the possibility of bringing the virus from the community.
Beckers are continuing Swahili lessons on-line and this is a challenge due to the unreliable internet service.
The majority of Becker's belongings have not shipped from the States yet, and this is good with their delay in getting to Kenya. It's very possible that their possessions would be looted in their absence.
The weather is chilly, Pastor wears his stocking hat every day. (Forgot to ask if he has his long johns along.) Since this was to be a short stint in Tanzania, some of their clothes are in Nairobi, and with the vigorous washing, wringing and sun-drying, their clothes are showing premature wear!
They send greetings to their church family at Good Shepherd."
